Although 54 years have passed since the end of the war, there are still vast bases on Okinawa. Approximately 75% of the land area used exclusively by U.S. Forces in Japan are located in this prefecture which comprises only 0.6% of the entire land area of Japan. 　 　　　These military bases occupy about 11% of prefectural land and on Okinawas main island, where most of the population and industries are located, the bases take up approximately 19% of the island's area. 戦後60年を経た現在もなお、国土面積のわずか0.6％に過ぎない狭い沖縄県に、在日米軍専用施設面積の約75％に及ぶ広大な面積の米軍基地が存在しています。 　米軍基地は、県土面積の約11％を占めています。 　とりわけ、人口や産業の集積する沖縄本島においては約19％を占めています。

There are 29 sea zones and 20 areas of airspace around Okinawa which are designated as U.S. military training areas. In addition, the Kadena RAPCON controls air traffic in the area around Kadena within a radius of approximately 80km and rising to an altitude of 6,096m. It also controls traffic in the area within a 48km radius of Kume Island to a height of 1,524m. Thus, we are restricted not only from using some of our land but also from using parts of our sea and sky
